Starting in 2002, DigMyPics became successful in pioneering new methods of image scanning and film transfer services. At 2am on May 5, 2008, everything came to a halt. The business suffered a devastating fire that completely destroyed the building and most of its contents. Like many victims of a fire, they were discouraged when it seemed unlikely that much of anything could be recovered from the pile of ashes left behind.

Knowing there were a lot of memories underneath the rubble, they felt they had to do what they could to find and salvage those memories. After explaining the importance of the contents inside to the fire investigator, the search for any remaining photos began. Miraculously, photos, slides and home movies started to emerge from the rubble. With little time on their hands, a team was assembled and the recovery process began. Working in a temporary facility, the team quickly and carefully cleaned and scanned the prints and film. Long, diligent hours paid off, leading to the recovery of more than 110,000 photos and over 30,000 feet of movie film.

Through the recovery process, a chance to help others who have been victims of a disaster emerged.
